Another piece of flash fiction this week. DMing my D&D group along with my day job have been requiring more of my time last week and will continue to do so this week. So I typed out a quick science fiction piece I brainstormed while attempting—and failing—to fall asleep last night. It was a fun, dialogue-heavy piece, and I look forward to revisiting it for revision sometime later this year.

This was a fun piece of flash fiction to write. It was born from thinking about lessons I’ve learned as a professional software engineer and how I could incorporate them as emotional stories in fiction. This is one such lesson in one such story. I look forward to returning to this 1,326-word flash fiction and revising it.

This was an interesting, but difficult piece of science fiction to write based on an article I read about Viral Interference. Not sure if I’ll revisit this story, but I’ll definitely keep the concepts it played around with as potential solutions to issues in future stories. It came out to 3,406 words.

The ninth of fifty-two short stories completed!
I took a bit of a break this week, writing a single piece of flash fiction for my story. Going back to work after a two-week vacation and having a few other commitments to handle, left me with less time and energy than usual to dedicate to writing. Also, the last three stories were 4,500+ words, so I was starting to feel the creeping claws of burnout. This week’s science fiction piece was a quick but enjoyable write, coming in at 841 words.

This week I continue exploring the episodic sci-fi book I’d like to put together by writing what could possibly be the last “episode” in the book. In this episode, I explore the conclusion of one of the primary protagonist’s character arc for the “season”. It turned out better than expected and does actually feel like a decent conclusion for an arc. The short story came out to 5,524 words.

This week I wrote what will possibly be the first “episode” in an episodic-ish science fiction series I’d like to write. I intend to use this challenge as a way to explore this series more, and I look forward to writing more in this sci-fi setting I’m slowly constructing. Episode one came out to 5,167 words.
