Ray Bradbury 52-Week Writing Challenge – Week 47

Challenge Overview

The forty-seventh of fifty-two short stories completed!

A longer piece this week, by a decent margin comparatively. It is a 5,672-word cyberpunk story that once I began just kept going down onto the page nice and easy. It’s been a while since a story flowed from mind to page as easily as this one did. It was a blast to write, and I felt more productive writing it than I have any other story in the last three months.

Ray Bradbury 52-Week Writing Challenge – Week 46

Challenge Overview

The forty-sixth of fifty-two short stories completed!

A shorter piece this week (1,094 words), and back into the realm of fan fiction. This is a story that attempts to bring some unresolved closure to the Mariner and Jennifer relationship from Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3. The idea came out of left field, I ran with it, and it turned out alright. Not sure if I’ll revise it, but I’ll give it a few month and see how I feel about it then.

Ray Bradbury 52-Week Writing Challenge – Week 44

Challenge Overview

The forty-fourth of fifty-two short stories completed!

Wrote another “aliens already live amongst us” tale, which came in at 3301 words. The story explores the conflicts people from an incognito species might have when they possess advanced technology that could save the life of a human friend. How does one justify giving over the technology when it puts them–and their human friend–at risk? It was a fun concept to explore.

Ray Bradbury 52-Week Writing Challenge – Week 42

Challenge Overview

The forty-second of fifty-two short stories completed!

Another science fiction piece this week clocking in at 3,489 words. This story touched on duty, mistakes, mentorship, and sacrifice. After finishing it, I was surprised at how much I ended up fitting into it given the relatively small word count. This will definitely be a story I revisit in the future for revision.

Ray Bradbury 52-Week Writing Challenge – Week 39

Challenge Overview

The thirty-ninth of fifty-two short stories completed!

This was another week I found myself spending the majority of my time playing Baldur’s Gate 3. However, it did provide the inspiration for this week’s story, which centers around one of the NPCs you meet in the game. It’s a minor NPC you only have a few interactions with, but those were enough to spark an idea that I developed it into a full 1,259-word short narrative.

Ray Bradbury 52-Week Writing Challenge – Week 38

Challenge Overview

The thirty-eighth of fifty-two short stories completed!

While I’ve been greatly distracted this week by the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, I managed to pull myself away from the immersive CRPG and knock out a 1,247-word fantasy short story about a thief (rogue) attempting to steal a magical whatsit artifact from some wizards. It was a fun little tale to spin. Now, if you need me, I’ll be in Baldur’s Gate.
